The time had come. The moon gleamed brightly on the quiet manor. Vines had grown deep into the stone base, and a whisper of age was crumbled the old building. Floorboards creaked, ceilings moaned. Much of the wildlife of this place had consumed the manor as part of the forest, and if a passerby had happened inside, they would hear the scratching of the residents inside the walls.
In actuality, the manor had not had visitors in a very long while. Hundreds of years mayhaps. Locals in the town next door would mumble rumors that it was impossible for a human to gain entry to the old building. Kids would sing of ghosts and ghoulies who would claim their souls if they were to trespass. Visitors to the town were often told to keep as far from the bewitched manor as possible.
And there were good reasons for these rumors, songs, and warnings. Every few years a vagabond would come barreling through, talking of untold treasures and fortunes hiding in that manor, just waiting to be taken. They would call the townspeople foolish for not taking advantage of their predecessors folly. Others would come from the city, to try to tear the structure down, so a new manor could be built in its stead.
And there were good reasons as to why none of these people had been successful. In fact, any who attempted to trespass the manor grounds were never seen nor heard from again. Thus the townspeople stayed very, very, far from the manor indeed. Whether they believed in monsters and ghosts, or not, everyone knew that it was dangerous to invade the quiet solitude of the estate.
However,
The Manor’s residents would soon find their solitude broken by an outsider for the first time in a very long time.
