One the drive home from work. Everett noticed a group of hardy Mennonites rebuilding another home. They appeared to be having a good time too, chatting merrily in both English and Dutch.
The citizen of New Orleans thought for certain these wonderful individuals would stay for a few weeks and return to the Mid - West or the great white north.
But her in 2007, Mennonites of all ages, hanging dry wall and laying tile for perfect strangers. For which the denizens of the Crescent City were most grateful. The more dislocated people out of those horrid FEMA Trailers, the better.
Everett lost his own residence to that bad tempered harridan, hurricane Katrina. He had flood insurance, but the sneaky bastards found a loophole, rendering his policy worthless. He thought about suing, but Joe 6 packs seldom won the battle against The Man.
One morning, these angels in plain clothes descended upon his property and rebuilt Everett's house.Painted it a pretty shade of yellow, and they even remembered to attach the cutesy white shutters.
Everett repeatedly tried to engage them in conversation.
'' Why are you doing this, I am nobody special ? ''
He was weeping and trembling with both shock and joy.
A fresh faced female with a thick Wisconsin accent just shrugged and said,'' Our heavenly father told us to love thy neighbor as ourselves.''
With that, she scurried back onto the roof to finish the shingles.
Everett resolved one his finances were back in order to cut them a sizable check. He pondered if they would mind adding a physically fit, bald old fart to their team.It seem like the right plan of action to take.
