Yikes

It was a perfect night for anyone seeking a comfortable sleep. Birds and other creatures of the dark were in pause mode, as if something unusual was about to happen. The sun quietly left its aroma of sunshine as it slipped beyond the hills and layered strata of colours -- disappeared.
Breaking the silence of 2 AM snoozin’ noises began with Skrack and Scritch. Indeed these odd sounds came from the next room, occupied by mom and dad. Did not his parents hear? What’s going on? I nervously asked. Weird uttering brought me backwards to year-eight of my life when I was full of beans, yet a very nervous lad.
At that time, imaginative thoughts about ghosts and even drooling creatures with decayed teeth, under my bed deterred me from super hero fame. I was always fearful my friends would abandon me if they knew creatures of the night were always after me.
What is it? My wife persisted, as I kept bringing forward these old shivers. I thought my old nemesis, the bogey-man was after me, I answered. But, it’s only you. Her response was not so pleasant and I had a difficult time escaping an onslaught of toilet paper rolls flung my way. I was not so swift these days since joining the Society of Older Shufflers.
Thankfully scary thoughts seemed to desert me as I returned to my room and fell into a
deep sleep. I did not hear Skrack and Scritch noises enter my room, coming closer...closer.
