Abandon ship!

Afghanistan is no more,

Old Afghanistan (of the last 20 years, or the 1970’s) has just given up its own ghost and is waiting to die!

The death agonies are beginning.

The middle classes and the interpreters and supporters,

who worked for foreigners or government, are jumping ship,

Onto the American and NATO military planes, crowded in the hold to escape the dreaded bearded Taliban (Pharoah’s Army may well be chasing them soon?)

Get out at all costs,

Run for your lives,

Leave everything you’ve known before,

And all your property, collected since the last civil war,

Money made in relative prosperity,

Under the protection of NATO forces and drones,

and the well financed, trained and equipped forces of Afghanistan,

given equipment generously by NATO and the Americans.

Get out quickly before it is too late!

Taliban are here already, but they are holding back,

letting the foreigners extract their people and their supporters

(But for how long?).

Someone said there were more men than women and children on the planes?

Get out while you still can,

And leave your wives and children behind if you have to!

They leave everything behind,

And are off to a new life – in sunny USA,

where everything is perfect and there is still plenty of wide open space?

And the people are friendly and always keen to welcome new migrants to their shores,

wherever they come from,

particularly as all of them were migrants or the sons or granddaughters and great grandsons of migrants at one time or another.
