Fury & determination
flight and ending:
black & grey hairs flowed
like thunder
as flags of victory-
a powerful wolf snaked
through the forest
knowing a deer’s throat was
very vulnerable.
As son and mother
idled in thickets of another
day the wolf charged.
Mother sent her son
flying with a whip of her
strong neck. Hide!
she screamed - kicking out.
Deep wounds from razor teeth
recited a sad tale
of loss but mother’s
bravery meant her son
could grow up and have
his own family.
