Graham, before he was Carey,

pronounced by Joni as Carrie

as though purloined from

a song about a game

that anyone could play…

                                     sang about a bus stop,

                                     in Cheadle Hulme

                                     or Chorlton or Cheetham,

                                     places visited from Broughton

                                     where another Graham

                                     didn’t take buses …

                                                                   on Saturday, but Tuesdays

                                                                   to an old church for the new

                                                                   beats and Top of the Pops,

                                                                   where others played his songs

                                                                   until The Dean and I

                                                                   werent’t in love to the sound of rubber bullets
