Day Dreaming at Night

Just a few desultory observations from recent days. Storm Cuddly caused widespread damage and injury, but one plucky reporter from Bonkers TV stood on the windy seafront to tell us about the red weather warning which advised local people to stay at home because there was a danger to life. Even the millionaire news presenters in their overheated studio looked a bit embarrassed.
It'll be the same next time, of course.
On the weekend dance show, judges debated whether to 'give contestants a ten'. In our 1960's school yard this would have been considered a sexy joke. One judge seemed to spot this, but wisely said nothing.
In the hotel I visit for regular coffees and anthropological research, an old guy struggled into the lounge with two sticks. He was puffing and sighing loudly. This only ceased when a chesty cough took over, and for all the world he looked and sounded chronically ill. After half an hour, his friend appeared and asked the old guy how he was.
"Great! I've never felt better" he replied (without irony).
The friend then went on to report that she had taken his earlier advice and a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders. I thought perhaps she'd decided not to wear her husband's heavy sheepskin coat, but the explanation was psychological.
"As soon as I realised that all the problems were other people's and not mine, a feeling of great freedom swept over me".
