The Lucky Leprechaun’s Visit On St Patricks Day
By Paul McCann
It was almost St Patricks day and the lucky leprechaun made his way out from the underground cave where he lived in Shindigairy Mountain on the Island of saints and scholars .
As he came out of the cave a rainbow appeared in the sky .
After he placed a crock of gold at each end of the rainbow he took flight on his fairy horse to the streets of the city where the lights shone bright and the traffic stood still and the sidewalks overspilled with people . He heard crowds of people screaming and saw others fighting . Then he saw gangs breaking store windows while looting started and the lighting of fires in cars and shops . Drunken louts gathered there and created chaos for everyone .
The lucky leprechaun told his fairy horse to hide there in the city park and then went for a walk around the city .
He said to himself .
“Sure now t’is just as well I came to see these going's on . It's sure a sad day to look at this place the way it is . What a right mess itbhas become since my last visit here .Well begorrah , mark my words , there’s going to be some changes around here .“
Then he took out his magic tin whistle and he started to play a few old tunes that echoed all over the city and put everyone into a trace , Then he did a jig and he started to jog and he a sang a song about where he came from and how long he had been away , Then in that moment the winds of change arrived and began to wildly blow through the city streets and around every corner . The with a twinkle in his eye the lucky leprechaun said to himself .
“Now I’ll soon have this place looking the way it should be or me names not Poggeledy Piggeldy Raggeldy Riggeldy Fiddledee Diddledee Do ‘.
Then he took his magic fiddle and played and when he finished he lifted his hand in the air and tapped his toes on the ground and started to dance around the town , Street by street he went like a spinning tornado . Everywhere he went , he send wisps of smoke and sparks that flew in whirling whooshes and twirling twists of fairy fire in magical shapes with sounds that turned things upside down and inside out .
The broken windows in all the stores were repaired and the fires that had been lit were extinguished . Then the lucky leprechaun took out a shillelagh who approached the angry mob who all received a gentle touch of the blarney from the blackthorn stick . Then the lucky leprechaun called out to his horse who came flying through the air at speed . They both went up into the sky and from a height above he called out to the stars in the sky that began to sprinkle magic stardust all over the city Then he clicked his fingers and all of a sudden everyone on the streets below awoke from their trance and started to sing and dance .
Then the lucky leprechaun took out his fiddle and played a farewell tune that made everyone on the streets giggle .
Then the lucky leprechaun and the horse flew away / They landed on their flight on St Patricks night as the soft rain began to fall on the fields around Shindigairy Mountain .
It was such a welcome sight when the other fairies there came out to sing and dance as friendly as can be and all over the island everyone felt young again . There was a new feeling of peace and love everywhere and in all the streets and towns , music was being played and there was dancing in the streets and public houses .
Oh what a day and such a night everyone had after the lucky leprechaun had paid a visit .
The lucky leprechaun thought to himself .
“Maybe I’ll stay for a while “
But he changed his mind and though , I’ve too many other things that need done .
Then he said ,
” Glory be I’ve been here all day and tomorrows coming soon . I’d better be getting back to the cave before the dawn finds me here like a drown shamrock on the ground ‘
Then he said farewell to all the other little fairies who for the time being were all still partying away with their pipes and fiddles , dancing jigs in their merry little ways .
Even though it was almost closing time now in the Irish pubs , it still wasn’t time for people to leave . The party went on for St Patricks Day and there were still singsongs going on .
What a feeling it was to be there in the crowd with everyone feeling proud to be Irish on St Patricks Day The lucky leprechaun had already left and returned back to his underground cave in the Shindigairy Mountain .
The End
