The new God (1)

"I’m really looking forward to thunder,” I said. The Supreme Being looked at me, with one his distracted stares.
“Thunder?” he said. “Oh, goodness no, you won’t be doing any thunder Wendle. We already have a thunder god, you must have met him – walks around carrying a bloody great hammer.”
“I thought I was the new weather god.”
“Oh myself, no, you’re just ‘a’ weather god, a junior rain god.”
“I just do rain?”
“Not all rain, actually, you’re the new drizzle and wet mist.”
“Drizzle and wet mist?”
“Yes, the handbook defines both in case you’re unsure. You’ll be working under Spender, he’s in charge of rain and misery – no point your scheduling a period of light drizzle if it overlaps with a bloody great thunderstorm.”
“I see. Drizzle and wet mist. Will I get many worshippers?”
“Worshippers? I wouldn’t think so.”
“Only that’s the main reason I became a god. The worshippers. And the power.”
“Well, you might not have worshippers, but you will have power, the power of the gods. The power to organise a period of light drizzle anywhere you shall choose, subject to authorisation by Spender of course.”

Yes! I would love more about Wendle, too! Why does he spend so much time in the West of Scotland?
