In somber mood tracking a waning moon
as savage wolves, indiscriminately croon
A melancholy melody from stale pages rolls
Incongruent harmony, frenetic cadence doles
Pinging cymbals clash
Forceful egos slash
Restive symbols climb metric scale
Truant signs do disharmony braille
Repeating bars squaring the pain on each line
Monotonous rhythm pairs with tedious whine
Eerie notes wailing from winsome flute
through dated reed, hollow, moldy chute
In the past, lively tones through the roof soared
Crescendos of laughter above sheets were scored
Now, transient spirits trumpet their discord
High pitch of lofty tenor, no longer implored
Bugle plays taps
Intensity saps
Synchronic instruments cannot discordant hearts remediate
Co-opted harmonizer, synthesizer cannot the rift attenuate
Dissonant chords, drifting minds oscillate
Intermittent pauses, heart strings fibrillate
