Illusory Love

Two lovers crested in their dawning prime
to a panoramic view, their heads touching the clouds,
soaring o'er the treetops like majestic eagles;
the whispering wind a serenading sound track
that propelled their lusty limbs to amour's,
climaxing dew point to share their ephemeral
desires--gases that would never congeal
Never shifting gravity's, gradient clutch,
became light-headed Loons, whose blood never reached
their heads, and suddenly spiraled through the muddled
haze. In the rearview, each fantasy floated into
the porous rotunda as two, dazed souls crashed
to the ground
Into the valley of doubt and despair,
peering up at the steep mountain
as over the windward slopes drifted
salty tears of remorse.
Once flaming vistas are quenched in the
swirling mist.
Embers of illumined horizons smolder,
lying in the sun's shadow
each fond memory slowly fades.
The sunbeams, now a flickering candle,
filter through the thatched seams and
ping off the bleached, rotting surface
baring the outlines of two, hollowed souls,
Afterward, blending into twilight's bleary folds,
before disappearing into the dark night,
leaving only drooping leaves--green figments
threaded into a jade canopy embalming
their floundering dreams
