Moonstruck

Casting a tent
under the pale moon
my tawny fibers
her bleached strands
wrapped in a silver cocoon
flung into orbit--
earth's baser elements
soaring on a comet's tail
My coarser part,
shards of chiseled rock,
a stanchion ballasting
delicate crystals
that are bathed
in drops of dew,
fueled by stardust
the exhaust of spent dreams
My darker hue
pairing a high libido
absorbs the pallid beams
bands of sweat
curdle my brow
I squirm in anticipation
while her ashen frame,
undulating foam that
deflects each wave,
as ripples of light
strike the rocky outcrop
of a dark, barren shore
then recede into the tides
The trappings of romance
enfilade our stage
but her mind has drifted
to a higher plateau,
a loftier station,
the rational plain
where reason trumps lust,
Only a blithe caricature remains,
comely parts devoid of passion,
still I sidle her corpse
hoping for the climax
of romance and amour
As the moon morphs
into a distant shadow,
her peaked countenance
becomes a flickering candle
only signifying love
As fragrant clouds
soar out of reach
beneath her crest
the wax slowly melts
