EAT ME!

"Eat Me"
it said,
like some sick fortune cookie message.
Here I was, just walked in the door-
already, it was beseeching me
to wet my appetite.

"Eat Me"&;#8230;
Suddenly,
I am seeing visions of Alice &; Wonderland&;#8230;
Just think-
if she hadn't listened
when it said: "Drink Me"
her world would have been an ENTIRELY
different place.

There it was, waiting for me&;#8230;.
I ignored it for a moment
while I dropped my suitcase off in my room.
Surely, I was imagining it.
Definitely NOT telling the shrink
that I'm hearing voices coming from the kitchen.
As I began to unpack,
the voice called out to me again
more urgent in its tone.
"Eat Me."

Returning to the kitchen
it continued to look up at me.
It seemed like it was begging me
to pick it up
where I had left off. To try again.
I could hear its insistent voice
It would NOT be ignored!
"Eat Me."

Looking closely
I turned it around on the table
summing up its ability
to change me into some really TALL
Amazonian woman.
Figuring that was out of the question,
I decided to take a bite
out of life.
