For my stepdaughters: Wherever they may be

Wonder what you think about when you think of your dad?
Maybe you remember his grin?
Perhaps you remember their sin?
The birthday parties that you never had&;#8230;

Do you know that you have a stepmother?
Did your momma tell you that?
Did she tell you where we were at?
Do you know about each other?

Do you wonder whether he thinks about you?
Did your momma tell you daddy doesn't care?
Tell you why he wasn't there?
Did she tell you true?

Did you know that I think about you both so much?
Wonder how you're growing up-
if your momma is loving you enough?
Does she buy you Barbies, horses, new clothes &; such?

I would ask you these things, if only I could
Instead, I keep silent, "for your own good".
