DEATH OF A LOVED ONE

She had loved Thomas so much,
But now he had gone for good.
She knew he would go, one day,
Yet she wished he never would.
Sadness trickled down her face;
She tissue-mopped up the tears.
Thomas was part of her life,
And had been with her for years.
Was she silly to miss him?
She thought people might think so.
But she cared for him a lot,
And it hurt to let him go.
They'd spend summer afternoons,
Relaxing in the garden.
Thomas would stay near to her,
Like a content guardian.
They'd sit by the fireplace,
During evenings of winter.
It felt nice that he was there;
He was important to her.
Now those cheerful days had gone;
There'd be no more times like that.
Still, she was thankful to know,
Such a dear, loveable cat.
