OUT OF TIME

Solo girl looks at the time,
Though she just checked what it was.
She observes the room's couples,
With their thoughts of lust, or love.
And she's sat all by herself.
So she opens her handbag,
And looks in it, for nothing.
She thinks people think she's mad.
Then she notices a guy,
With his back against the wall.
She would like to catch his eye.
He doesn't notice at all.
She wills him to come over,
But he's fixed on something else.
If something is to happen,
She should make a move herself.
She wants to, but she's anxious;
Frightened of what he might think.
She decides she'll approach him,
After she has had a drink.
So she goes up to the bar,
Feeling far too self-aware.
She gets a drink, but feels like,
The most saddest woman there.
"Right, come on," she tells herself,
And she puts on a brave face.
But then as she turns around,
The man has moved from his place.
Now he is sat with someone else,
So solo girl's still by herself.
She mutters, "Swine," and she curses.
One glass of wine, she's nobody's.
