"You are what you eat," Miss Brown told her class. "Bearing that in
mind, what does your breakfast make you?"
"I'm a bowl of cornflakes," called Roger. The others laughed with
him.
"That's healthy, Roger," said Ms Brown. "What about you, Jade?"
"I'm a slice of toast."
"What about you, Lee?" said Miss Brown.
"I'm a packet of cheese and onion crisps."
Miss Brown tutted as the class roared with laughter. She looked round the class to ask someone else. Don't ask me; thought George.
"What about you, George?" asked Miss Brown.
He didn't respond.
"George, what about you?" repeated Miss Brown.
"I'm," sour-faced George began, "I'm nothing."
Snorts of laughter went around the class; the loudest was from
Fiona.
"And what did Fiona have for breakfast?" said Miss Brown.
"I had a small jam doughnut, Miss," Fiona confidently replied.
"At least I'm not a bloody doughnut!" boomed George.
The class fell silent.
"Um, that's not appropriate language to use, is it?" Miss Brown told George.
George shrugged, "Going without breakfast isn't meant to be good for you. You can't concentrate properly, it makes you more aggressive and it makes your breath smell bad."
"Maybe you should eat breakfast then," suggested Miss Brown.
George smirked, "Nah. I hate school, I want to fight everyone 'ere and I want you all to stay the hell away from me."
