One of my best friends, Sean Whiter, is planning on writing and publishing an anthology of true horror stories that happened to him, and wants his twin brother, Dean, Frankie and I to donate a story or two.
It's my turn to donate a story, and I've just thought of one...
It happened at least two years after I met the twins and Frankie. Frankie was coming round to the flat where the twins and I lived. We were all planning to have a Tomb Raider marathon on the PlayStation.
Being a typical girl, I felt it was such a bad idea. It was a bright, sunny day, and I felt like having a nice, long walk outside, rather than sitting cooped up inside, shooting at villains.
Frankie came round at one, and we all sat down for our Tomb Raider marathon. Dean went to turn the TV on, but nothing happened.
"What have you done now?" Sean laughed. Dean had a reputation amongst us four for being a SuperKlutz.
"The TV's not plugged in," Frankie said, pointed at the plug. Dean put the plug in and pressed the 'On' button. Still nothing happened.
"What's wrong with it?" The boys complained.
"We'll just have to call out the technician," I said. "Come on, let's find something else to do?"
"Let's go to Hillion Woods," Frankie said.
"Huh? Why would you want to go there?" Asked Dean. "It's private property, isn't it? It belongs to Hillion House."
"Yeah, that's why I want to go there," Frankie told us. "The family who lived there was Mr and Mrs Cramdion, with two small children."
"Yeah?" Said Sean. "Everyone knows that. They only moved in a week ago, though"
"Well, they moved up the country. And there's this rumour circulating that nobody wants to buy the house because it's haunted."
I looked at Dean and Sean; they looked at me. We all burst out laughing.
"Okay, I'm going on my own," Frankie said, angrily.
"Hey, wait up, Frank, we never said we wouldn't go with you," Sean said. "Wait up!"
Half an hour later, we were entering Hillion Woods. It was such a quaint, pretty little place. Of course, when I pointed that out, the others all teased me about being a typical girl.
We were all walking through the woods for ten minutes, when we came across a little building, no larger than a shed at the top of Frankie's garden.
"That's Hillion House," Sean told me.
"That little place? I thought it was a shed."
I looked back at the house. Frankie and Dean had already pushed the front door open and went inside. Obviously, nobody had bothered to lock it before they left. Sean and I followed.
Inside, it didn't sem that small, if anything, it seemed kind of spacious. The room we were all standing in was exactly the same size as the flat I lived in with the twins.
It was really empty, completely stripped of furniture. Not even a picture hung on the walls. It was completey white, and whenever we spoke, it echoed.
I looked all around. For some strange reason, this seemed to be the only room the 'house' possessed. Clearly, it wasn't a house, it as actually a shed, as I had suspected before; there wasn't even any plug sockets for TV's or stereos.
"Why would anyone want to live in this shed?"
"The family who lived here before, the Cramdions, they were forced to live here by a curse."
At first, I thought one of the others had spoken, but then I realized that the voice was too feminine for Frankie and the twins.
I looked at all of them, they were all looking towards the door. A woman was standing there. She looked quite old, short, greying hair, and a family of warts all over her face. For one mad moment, I thought she was a witch!
"Who are you, old lady?" Frankie asked.
"I am the old lady who owns this shed. I am called Rose Hillian."
"What? You don't own this place. The Cramdions did," Sean argued.
"You are sadly mistaken, young man," Rose Hillian smiled. "I own this place. Years and years ago, my great grandma, Cathy Clopman lived here. She had to live here, living the life of a hermit. Everyone found out she was a witch who practised the Black Arts, and banished her here. She married a man named Luke Hillian, who told her he was the Devil in disguise, and she had to marry him, because she sold her soul to him. However, it turned out he only married her, to con her out of all her life's savings. He ran off with all the money, my grandma never saw him again.
She was so grief-stricken, that she killed herself. But before she did, she put a curse on this place. She swore that anyone who crossed anyone of the Hillian family, may bad things happen to them!"
I burst out laughing at that point. The boys looked at me, willing me to shut up.
"Well, you don't expect me to believe that, do you?" I laughed. "She obviously gets a kick out of scaring people."
"What did the Cramdions do?" Frankie inquired.
"They'd rented the place out from me," she carried on. "They were supposed to obey me and follow my rules. But they didn't, they decided on putting in electricity in here, which I expressly forbade!"
"Wow, imagine living without electricity for a whole week," Sean mused. "I would've done the same thing."
"Ah, but you don't know, do you. I hired the Cramdions to carry on practising the Black Arts. Electricity inteferes with magic!"
"You got that from 'Harry Potter', didn't you?" Dean said.
Rose Hillian glared at all of us. She then produced a key from the pocket of her voluminous cloak.
"Now, you will be the new hired. Now, you will be the ones to practise the Black Arts!" And then, quick as a wink, she shut the door, and turned the key in the lock. Because there was no windows, we were suddenly plunged in darkness!
