We all looked around. The dark made it seem smaller. I don't like being contained in a small space for too long if I can help it. At the minute, I wanted to get out.
"Charlotte?"
I jumped. But it was only Frankie, wanting to know if I was okay.
"Yeah, I'm fine, Frankie."
"Oh, it's just that, you was breathing really fast. It sounded like you was hyperventilating."
"Well, I do that usually when I'm nervous. I don't really like being in small spaces."
"But this isn't really a small place, Chaz."
"I know. But the dark makes it look like that."
"Charlotte. Frankie," ca;lled out Dean. I could tell it was Dean, even though I couldn't see him properly. Being the younger twin out of him and Sean, Dean had a higher voice. "Quit your gassing, and help us get out."
I started feeling on the walls.
"What are you doing, Chaz?" asked Frankie. "There are no other doors. The only one there is is locked. And there aren't any windows either."
"I know," I replied. "But maybe I could find a secret door?"
"Oh please," scoffed Sean. "Where do you think you are? The Secret Garden?" The other two twittered.
I ignored them and carried on feeling along the walls. They were made out of plaster, so whenm I found a part made out of wood, I started thinking it was something special.
"Oh, great, Now she thinks she's in Diagon Alley." I heard Dean mutter, as I knoicked three times on the wood-made wall.
I stood back from the wall. But nothing happened.
"Well, what did you think was going to happen?" Asked Sean. "That a door would suddenly appear?"
"Sssh," Frankie warned. "Who's groaning?"
I heard groaning too, but it wasn't groaning the way a human does when it's in pain. This was more like an animal groaning, and in the dark, it sounded kind of creepy.
Suddenly, without warning, the part of the wall that I'd tapped on, fell down. A line of sunshine poured in, creating light. As I loked at the hole where the wall was, I found I was looking at a mess of green.
Feeling curious, but also reckless at the same time, I creeped a bit closer to the non-wall, and stepped outside.
"Charlotte!" Sean hissed. He and the others came up behind me.
"Where are we?" I asked. We seemed to be in a jungle-like place. Huge trees towered up over us, their leaves dark green and soaking wet. Even though there was a shaft of sunlight filtering in from somewhere, the whole place reminded me of a dark rainforest.
"I have no idea where we are," Sean answered my question. "I've never been here before."
I breathed in slowly; then, turning around and smiling at the others, I said: "Well, whast are we waiting for? Let's explore this place!"
I ran off before anyone could answer, I heard them running after me.
I carried on runing; after a while I had to stop; a stitch in my side.
Rubbing my sore stomach, I looked around at my new bearings. We still seemed to be in a vast rainforest. I turned. Frankie and the twins had caught up with me. Sean was looking at me; a 'you're stupid' lok knitted on his face.
His brother stod there staring at me.
"What's wrong, Dean?" I asked him.
At first, Dean couldn't say anything, his eyes growing wider and wider in shock. Then he swallowed and blurted out: "Charlotte. You're sinking!"
I looked down. I was standing on ground which looked mushy. Dean was right, I was sinking. Quicksand!
