Child

I put before you a child,
Full of grace, as grace is fair.
Here sits before you this child:
Seeing innocence from every pore,
Kind nature hangs in droplets from their hair-
A twinkle in the eye of perfection.
And yet they tell a tale of woe,
Their faces drawn taut over bone
No colour, no expression, no smile.
But this child has seen death;
This child has seen violence;
This child has seen hunger;
This child has seen rape;
This child has seen sorrow.
This child has been to school
And this child watches television.
This child looks out of the window
And sees devastation.
Children in every country, everyday
Are forced to witness horrors of our world
And what do we do?
Keep innocence in child.
