The After Love

After the sun set we met regularly in the twilight zone,
Dark anonymous self-conscious-less safety.
In darkness the new found boundaries fade away,
Love can be passionate without thought or bind.
All that we once were revisits,
A talent in partnership, perfected.
Our muscles synchronise, we rise and fall together,
Eyes hypnotised.
I know your mind as well as your body, predicted.
Friendship ran throughout our time, a comforting constant
Escaping individual worlds together.
We rode off into the distance
Leaning on each other we cuddled up and warmed,
Sheltering from the destruction we made together, our legacy we left ourselves.
We worked like clockwork, monotomous, ringing the bell every full moon
Too tall for the shelf but no room on the floor
Love seconds numbering, tick, tock, tick, tock.
After sex slumbering in your strong arms,
Relaxed and reassured, waiting for the day I still the pendulum.
Unable to haunt no man’s land forever when no man’s land belongs to you.
Awaiting the day to put us to bed, that fateful final hour.
One last goodbye before I let the sun rise.
I let you hold my heart a little longer, but goodbye just took it back.
With this kiss I reclaim, sucking my life out of you and passing over.
