ENEMY AT THE GATE

Enemy at the Gate
Eons gone, I made a vow
To love and cherish always.
No matter what tried to breach
Our fortress castle of love.
But that was then, this is now
And jaded smiles seem faded
Like the lingering embers
Of passion long since subdued.
Oh! To feel a new love soar on wings
And like the Phoenix fly again.
And amidst the fleshy flames
Of fresh desire, be renewed.
Or is the freshening wind
Bearing whispers of love anew.
Just an enemy at the gate
Come to steal and not to give?
