I Threw You Away

I threw you away, is that all a torrid love affair is worth
Meaningful, passionate and absorbing until it ends, then worthless
How does a heart respond with such hate, after so much love
A broken heart cannot be held responsible, so distressed, forlorn
I threw you away piece by piece, little by little, ever so slowly
Ridding myself of you, your memory, your smell, your touch, I thought
I found that the memories do not fade; still as strong, powerful
Now regretting my actions, everything is gone, forever
I am now able to look back, to feel your love, without blame
All that remains is my memory, no little pieces of you left
Gifts given from the heart, precious reminders, all gone
Will you forgive me; find peace in your tormented heart, as I have
I often wonder if you kept the pieces of me hidden but safe
I will never know, you are lost to me forever, how sad, how lonely
