06.44am Sometimes I wonder if I have anything new to say, things
that seem important to me once, don't seem to last. Or maybe after a
while I just get bored with the same old stuff in a while. I am
listening to Ker Plunk, from one of the piles of Cds that I seem to
have accumulated through visiting HMV and parting with money in
exchange for CDs.
Yesterday (04) I got up at 6.15 and fed Longhair and Tabby, and
sometimes Tabby gets to the kitchen first, and other times Longhair is
ahead of him, but Longhair has his biscuits. Sometimes they sleep about
two inches apart, and I think that Longhair likes Tabby, but of course
the older cat just tolerates him. They both like sleeping on the bed of
course, because they can, so they do.
I got the 8.22 to work and listened to the "Clarity" album by Jimmy Eat
World, which is alot slower than their newest CD and much lighter. The
songs are longer as well.
I spent the morning downloading the new data files and working on the
mainframe app. I bought a latte from Starbucks during the morning as I
felt like it. At lunchtime I went in HMV and bought The Music album
after deciding that maybe I would like it after all (in fact I do, but
not as much as some other albums I have), and a boxed set of The
Thirteenth Floor Elevators. And 2 copies of the Labyrinth on DVD, as it
was two for one, and I didnt want to pay ?20 for a DVD I didnt want, so
I got two the same. If I took my Vaio to work, I could watch the film
at lunchtime, provided I wasnt off to HMV buying more CDs.
Another panini and latte later I was back at work killing time between
lunchtime and going home.
I got the 17.15 home and listened to the Music CD on my discman, and
read the whole of the new NME I had bought in the afternoon, after
going in Smiths to buy stamps so I could mail my tax return off.
After a bath, I didnt play the guitar as I didnt have time, I was back
online and in the NME chat again, and this time I know a few people
there so I could talk a bit better. It is still anarchy and yet, I am
beginning to understand it, how it works, what the people say and why.
There is a lot of swearing and I am sure that some of the regulars have
very strong views about things. Some of them will say the same sort of
things, and their voice becomes easy to spot.
I was told that I reminded someone of somebody they knew before and had
to insist that I had only been going on the chat since Monday, and had
never been there under a different name.
We had tea. We didnt watch Lost In Space as that would left me with
half an hour to do everything I had to do. I copied my garage punk CD
for the girl in GUM, and sent a couple of emails. And my wife was
watching "Sex In The City" which is her favourite show, and she has the
boxed set as well. I listened to the Pattern again.
Some music:
New York punk is a bit whiney and the chords are basic riffs. Chicago
punk is more bluesy and has a deeper sound. Texas punk is more rock and
roll and the West Coast punk is more surf than punk.
There is a new form of music which is being recognised in its own
right, and that is Emo. There is a web site www.fourfa.com where you
can read about it and find out what Emo is all about. It is like punk
but the songs have a deeper meaning and the lyrics are more intense.
Sometimes the words are screamed, and tend to deal with emotion. Hence
the tag Emo.
I found some great music here
http://www.theflowershoprecordings.com/MovieSongRM56.html - it uses
Real Audio and I am sure will be more of interest than me crapping on
about Emo, without giving an example. A lot of music is absolute shite,
and some is really uplifting.
People rate Coldplay as great, I rate them as an album that I wouldnt
buy like I wouldnt buy disco or modern R&;B out of choice. Some say
that Coldplay are complete bollocks, and I admit that when I heard
their new album in HMV I ejected it within ten seconds. Same as the
Flaming Lips which Q reckon is a really good album and others reckon
they would rather listen to pop music than Flaming Lips. A lot of bands
get tagged as must see but when you see them they are shite. I dont
like bands that appear to be clever like they think they are so cool,
when in fact they have no soul, no meaning, nothing to relate to.
With my writing, with the poems I have seen a slant to the poems
switching into lyrics. Its not a conscious decision it just seems to be
happening that way, and its a real pity there is no category for lyrics
on abctales.
I want to get a copy of Jet Plane Landing's set at Reading, as it was
really good, and much better than the album.
Radio stations should play less shit.
