Awkward Shyness

I remember a far younger you
flirting more directly than most other girls
In almost boyish style, you faced the world
carrying something very attractive, fresh and new
Something in your confident flashing eyes, that wantonly smiled
as you tried to draw attention to the lift of your breasts
searching my face for any sign, that I had noticed them and you
Awkward is our youth so often, in such circumstance
where there are no rules, on who should break the ice
and no synchronized flirtation, to raging music, or any spontaneous chance
So each day, you walked my dog, or maybe he walked you
Great Dane, great personality, his great awkwardness of youth
and so you were noticed, in noble company, all perky, with control renewed
I never shared my thoughts, or the feelings that I carried then of you
So often, youthful awkward shyness, shapes our lives and all we do
