The Dying Art of Being Sentimental

I believe that unlike elephants, mankind evolves carelessly
and moves further away from before, with each child born
Each generation less content and seeking more
of what they deem to be, their perfection of youth
Ever leaving those things perceived to be redundant
and of no relevance, to current trends and whims
Left choking and neglected on dusty plains of yesteryear
Consigned to inevitable death, but at least archived
Oh how I once pursued the perfection of my youth
and thus ensured, that children would ultimately be its testament
Oh how one searches for those tangible things, one’s parents had ignored
Embracing life completely oblivious to, the dying art of being sentimental
or what it takes, to consider the irony of its relevance, to every caring life
How it announces the reality, of drawing closer, to one’s own death
and ultimately highlights, how carelessly man has evolved, within one lifetime
by its irrelevancy and total absence, in the minds of one’s children and elephants...
