‘A Scourge Long Foreseen’
Someone needs to be honest
To not embellish, fudge or pretend
Surely facing up to the facts and reality
should never threaten, or offend
Now that bloated bodies have become the norm
there’s only so much that can fit on the screen
While the rest of us choose activity, healthy eating and life
health systems are clogged up, with a scourge long foreseen
I fear our earth must be shrinking
when measured by the rate of how wide people grow
And I just can’t help being concerned when thinking
Soon there’ll be nowhere left for others to go
Oh sure, they say that within every chubby frame
there is a slim person waiting to burst out
from the junk food, the guilt and the shame
Oh please… spare us the thought, the to and the fro
Think before you consider my words too extreme
Of choices made, habits formed with careless disregard
of a child’s diabetic legacy, the weight is not as it seems
While Earth becomes the beast of burden, obesity grows
How hard is it really to get one’s butt every day?
To burn away lazy calorie attitudes, as if you cared
How hard is it really to die prematurely unprepared?
From a simple foolish choice, you refused to let go away?
