Upon the Elf Hill

Upon the Elf hill,
the elf girls danced nimbly,
a silhouette forming against the crimson skyline.
Elegant and slender,
a jewel of the night,
shrouded in the incandescent moonshine.
They could be seen from afar,
where the forest nymphs would gather,
to look upon the elf girls, hearts hardening with envy,
they wished to dance as freely and lively,
and endeavoured to find the source,
from where such beauty was formed.
“Buried under the old oak tree,
by the Erl king himself,
never meant to be set free,
is a pearl of such splendor,
it beholds all the beauty of the world'
Unbeknown to them, the woman of the town,
also gathered in secret,to look upon the elf girls,
following whisperings,
that the elf girls possessed beauty beyond belief,
at the sight of their dancing, jealously overcome them,
and they resolved to find the source of such beauty.
Perched upon the elf hill,
stood an old oak tree, tall and strong,
with a door small enough for a elf to fit through,
for those who know where to look,
it happened that on the night in question,
the envious nymphs and women assembled by the tree.
“Buried under the old oak tree,
by the Erl king himself,
never meant to be set free,
is a pearl of such splendor,
it beholds all the beauty of the world'
To decide where best to look,
for this token of beauty,
that would bring fourth such beauty,
that had never graced earth's shores afore time,
before long an inquisitive nymph noticed,
a piece of bark which seemed not to match the rest of the tree.
And so the women and the other nymphs,
began to peel away the bark until a hidden door was exposed,
the nymph smaller than the elf's could easily fit through,
and she made her way inside,
where to her amaze she found a clam as pure as snow,
nestled inside was a perfectly formed pearl of uncharted grandeur.
“Buried under the old oak tree,
by the Erl king himself,
never meant to be set free,
is a pearl of such splendor,
it beholds all the beauty of the world'
So greedy and full of mischief she decided,
to keep the pearl for herself,
and returned to the others saying the tree was empty,
hearing this, disheartened, the others returned home,
resigned to the fact that such beauty,
that the elf girls beheld could never be replicated.
The lone nymph returned home,
with the pearl kept safe in her pocket,
she decided to sleep before looking upon the pearl,
as she had been awake a very long time,
and her little feet were aching,
and she let sleep fall upon her and amerce her into a world of dreams.
“Buried under the old oak tree,
by the Erl king himself,
never meant to be set free,
is a pearl of such splendor,
it beholds all the beauty of the world'
Whilst the troublesome nymph laid her head to the call of dreams,
the pearl awoke, and heard the delicate dancing of the elf girls,
calling the pearl back to its rightful place,
descending from the nymphs hut,
it flew gently across the midnight sky,
and landed softly into its clam.
When morning came and she went to retrieve the pearl,
from her pocket she found to her astound,
the pearl was gone,
and in its place laid a single shell,
which when held up to the sun acted as a mirror,
and so the nymph could look upon herself whenever she dared.
