THE KING AND THE WITCH

Once upon a time in a land far away,
A mighty king sat upon his throne and looked out over his kingdom.
The grass was green, the sky was blue
And the sun was like a big yellow balloon high above the sea!
The king looked at his shiny black shoes with their silver buckles.
He looked at his socks with their ribbons and bows.
He looked at his trousers, his nice white shirt.
He looked at his cloak with the fur round the edge,
He felt for the crown, on his head it was wedge!
Off went the king for a walk in the city,
He noticed a clown who was singing a ditty.
He saw an old lady with her hair in a bun
When all of a sudden he decided to run!
He ran down the lane holding onto his crown.
He ran though the forest where no one was known.
His shoes got all muddy when he fell in a ditch
And you never guess what he was caught by a witch!
The witch took his crown and his cloak and his socks.
She took off his shoes and she cut off his locks!
“Leave me alone!” Cried the king to the witch
As she washed off the mud on his shoes, from the ditch
“Not on your Nelly!” Said the witch to the king,
“I’ve something to do that’s about to begin!”
“And what might that be?” Asked the king in despair,
“For goodness sake woman you’ve cut off my hair!”
He waited and watched while the witch did her bit,
Dancing and singing and having a fit.
She flung herself here she flung herself there.
She jumped over the table and into the air!
Shrieking and laughing and singing with glee,
The witch became airy and fairy and free!
The next thing you know the king was in love
And married the fairy god sent from above.
He looked at his shoes all shiny and clean,
And declared that his shoes were the cleanest he’d seen!
He looked at his wife with their baby princess
And he knew all at once he had married the best.
At night she would dance beneath the moon light
Every now and again she would give him a fright.
He looked at the grass and the sky and the sun,
He remembered the day he went out for a run.
Once upon a time in a land far away
There was a king on a throne
