In Bernadette's Garden

I spent the night with the moon,
and all was still in Bernadette's garden.
A veil of white jewels seeped through
the silk-velvet black of the sky
as I breathed in the balm, the calm
and the sweet scented perfume of candles
arranged on the carpet of grass -
lit in a circle around us.
I lay on my back and watched as the stars
faded to light, while quiet music carried me
warm on the breeze stealing dreams
from my mind that danced me to heaven,
hypnotic - entranced, but not quite...
The night was safe, and He was there;
we drank some wine and passed the time
out of the way of the world.
Then He slept wrapped in a rug like a child
while I rested in silence admiring the beautiful sky.
And I blinked at the far winking eyes of the night
until clouds spread and quilted my dreams
in billowing reams of rose tinted wool.
They stayed for an hour, then parted all broken,
melting like ice on a lake.
And when it was dawn - say, around about four,
I stood up and stretched to the wakening blue,
and saluting the sun's bleary glow,
gave thanks for the year's shortest night.
I made myself tea in the kitchen and drank it
in Bernadette's garden
while He, oblivious, slept slightly damp from the dew.
And quietly I waited until five o'clock -
turned the key in the lock
and nobody saw me go home.

Well done on Cherries, well deserved. This moved me from the first words, taking me to places and people faces, I wished I could go/see again,Really relaxing, warm, interesting and simply a delight to read and what a warm, welcoming lovely picture!
if I did not know better, I would of said this was from a well established author, who knows exactly how to write and engage her readers. Brilliant.
