Fascination

Curved silver in his rippling world,
veiled in floating lace,
wends and leaps upon his prey -
a fish.
I marveled on the nature
of his existence, as if of life beyond
our planet, and watched him swoon,
intent upon the worm which was
my wish.
So then I reeled him in and saw
him bathed in butter, dressed
up smart for dinner, sweet
and tender, served with peas
and carrots on a dish -
my fish.
