The Time Saver's Wife

His mother cooked breakfast
every morning, packed lunch,
and had dinner ready
the second he got in from work.
But he needed space.
Wide open areas -
she got what she asked for -
A boy, a girl, two hamsters later,
she couldn't take it -
or the kids - without his cash,
so she made his lunch -
just as his mum had -
packed her stuff.
And everybody said,
isn't he marvelous, bringing up
a family single handed? How could
a mother leave like that? Answers
at the bottom of a bottle, please.

Sometimes it's like we're the hamsters, running around our wheels. Lots of story in this this poem.

I can identify
with all the different human stories in this one. I've known mothers who ran away, and fathers who brought up their children alone (yet who attracted far more help than any single female parent does).
and those who run away from the hamsters, gerbils etc. Nicely written and quite enjoyable.
maisie Guess what? I'm still alive!
