I swing the hammer and pound the nail
tendon and muscle,tissue and bone
the sun beats down upon my brow
a bead of sweat glides down my nose
landing hollowly in an empty pail
The work day is finished I head for home
gathering my tools ,jumping in my truck
key in ignition ,pedal to the floor
both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road
At the intersection I start seeing red
across the way in another beater truck
I stare at my twin and we both groan
Offing my clothing I step into the shower
cleaning my manly body takes about half an hour
grabbing a towel I quickly dry off
then step onto the flowery rug for a daily ritual
wiping the mirror I stand back and stare
A body I see but no soul is there
