SS148{ Via Pontina}

This is the road that makes the M6 look like childs play,
And this the warning I gave you before you use it someday,
The principle road from Rome to Naples a murderer of lots,
A bltch of a road that will tie you in knots!

It is old and narrow and has two lanes,
Always with bumper to bumper traffic,
So we drive too close and yes, too fast,
And to often the outcome is so tragic.

The crash barrier that flows along side,
Is scarred with our battle of commuting,
This is your daily white-knuckle ride,
And the shadow of death is always waiting!

This is the most dangerous road in Italy,
And I drive seventy miles of it every day,
You have to hold on and grit your teeth,
If you want to make it all the way!

We have potholes like golf bunkers,
And blind curves hiding traffic jams,
So when we arrive there at full throttle,
We have no prayer and we are damned!

The bunches of flowers and crucifixes mark,
Where recently people have been slain,
Nearby a thick black stripe of tire rubber,
Most probably happened in torrential rain!

So you ask me why a road of such could exist,
In this modern world we live in today,
A road put down in the late sixties,
In 2003 is used and abused in every way,
It is the same question I ask stuck in a jam,
On my way to work, almost every day!
