When I was fifteen I had a flashback in Wigan High street. I was walking up the hill of the high street when I heard a voice say "She's always thinking she sees her mother." The voice was well above my head and, as I heard it, I saw a little girl run over to a woman with a fifties hairstyle and an Astrakhan collared camel hair coat. When I blinked none of it was there.
I always felt a push on my back when I was standing at the side of the road or at a train platform. I always had to stand with my back against a wall whilst I waited to cross a road. I remember a story of our Sandra pushing me in the road and I could remember my toe being just caught with the edge of a Wimpey lorry wheel. I don't think Sandra did it. I think I had a twin and someone tried to kill us both but I remember leaning back against the pushing hand, with all my might. I think the other child was killed. I had a terrible fear of being pushed under a car or lorry until very recently. I'm still careful.
When I started school in the September when I was four, 1957, I was terrified. I cried constantly so that in the end Sandra had to come and sit with me for about a month until I settled down. The school was an old one; high windows, high ceilings, wooden floors, etc., very similar to the hall in which the woman was killed. There was even a stage in the hall.
I fell in love for the first time here in the kindergarten class. His name was John Stanton and he fixed my desk-lid chain during my first weeks at school. He was my hero until I was 10-11. He didn't know. I was always very shy as a kid.
I had many strange experiences as a kid, being chased by a man with a knife, flashers, all sorts of odd stuff. When I was about seven I was playing in the grounds of an old abandoned house; we called it the White House. There was a large house in extensive grounds. My friend and I were on the other side of the stream which ran through the grounds. There was just a narrow track through the undergrowth. Suddenly a man appeared! He was about twenty and was flourishing a knife with which he threatened us. I told my friend to run!
We legged it along the narrow path with the loony behind us. It was terrifying. My friend was a rubbish runner and I had to keep pushing her along. We made it to the little bridge back over the stream, and when we reached our friends and looked back, the lunatic ran off.
There was a scary piano up the road from the White House. It used to play itself as we went passed. We all thought it was haunted but it turned out to be an automatic piano that played itself. We all fell for that one. The buggers in the house must have laughed themselves silly.
