We were trapped by the tide
Too cold to go swimming
I'd looked into your eyes
And held onto your hand
As I started to cry
I was only 13
With a burning ambition
To conquer my fears,
And win over your heart,
But I wasn’t prepared.
We had looked for a cove
Away from our families
And now we were caught
No plan in my head,
As the waves rose around.
But you jumped up and waved,
Shouting help from the shore.
A fisherman came,
He held out his hand
And we climbed aboard
Too ashamed, I looked down,
You were the one who had saved us.
Made friends with a sailor
A brave story to tell
In which I had failed
