Something's There

Something's there ,in the back, behind me , in the car
the tunnel of trees leans over
kissing me with old mans whiskers
papery and rough
leaves finger past ,scratching winter's dawn
leaving a streak of rain
fleeing
trailing terror which crawls under my collar
can't stop nowhere to go
miles from the house
a cracklebone snaps
shifting and shuffling whispers
an odd breath closes the window with mist
nothing happens ,nothing ever did
except just once
when I ran to the shed but wasn't hid
