The walkway was busy. A giant path that carves right through the centre of the the main city of Seketh and splits off to each district. The city itself is colossal. Three thousand square miles of it. The Hub, is at the heart of the city. A two mile high spire that gathers and stores all information sent, received, created and destroyed in the city. Thanks to human insecurity and Va'tu engineering a system was created that was connected to all forms of technology and actively scanned every piece of data in the city. It started as simple crime prevention, and it worked. But after many years people became agitated with it and started looking for ways around the system. This prompted a small civil war that resulted in thousands of deaths and severe restrictions on movement and communication. All entangled devices were shut down and the city became a wasteland. That was over fifty years ago. People settled down and society moved on. Crime is now barely more than a flicker and is quickly dealt with by the Boskun Enforcers brought in by a treaty with the Va'tu.
I weave through the stirring masses and make my way to the darker part of the city, locals have taken to calling it Dark Matter. It started off as low-cost housing for incoming humans but all manner of alien life started making the dense corner of the city their home. Unlike the rest of the city, Dark Matter is overcrowded, toxic and dangerous. The lowest common denominator easily finds its way to the dark streets and abyssal alleys. The crisp clean edges of the city almost perfectly contrast the dark menagerie of this pit of cruelty. Unfortunately for me it's the place I'm most likely to find the first person I need to help keep me alive.
The Midden reminded Inspector Astor of a human hospital. The clinical smell and bleakness of the place always put him on edge. It was a space station floating just above the artificial ozone of Seketh. Originally established by the Va'tu as a means for protecting humanity from attack, the Boskun Enforcers were granted permission to use it as a base of operations where they could investigate and interrogate prisoners. It remained in orbit directly above the central transportation hub in the Seketh capital city.
Astor’s footsteps echoed through the endless corridors and empty rooms as he approached the investigation room. His desk was tucked away in the corner away from the harsh lights and glacial stares from fellow officers. He didn't belong. Inspector Astor Feraliah was the only human in the Enforcers. Few approved of his appointment and this caused friction with his work. He was assigned human apprehension as the Boskun were unable to grasp human logic and this lead Astor to be shunned by his own kind.
