My dearest Caroline
It has been to long since I have seen you. I have seen sunsets and sunrises, but nothing of your beautiful face. I miss you like the flower misses the sun. Ever since you have left my side there has not been a single moment passed that I don't think about the moments we shared. Thoughts of you consume my waking days, even in sleep you haunt me. You are the love of my life, my whole world. My love, please come back to me and make my life worth living, for without you the world stands still.
With all my love and forever yours

A poignant love letter.
A poignant love letter.
On a different note, I caught a whiff of my Heaney collection the other day whilst I was reading it. I can't remember which poem.

This almost reads like an actual love letter, but since it’s marked as a story I’m going to look for a narrative in it. It sounds like a letter written from the perspective of a toxic lover, someone who thinks it’s someone else’s job to make his “life worth living” while ignoring the wishes of his ex (sounds like she’s the one who initiated the breakup). If this was your intention, maybe focus less on the florid prose and more on the dynamics of this seemingly one-sided relationship. I actually like the idea of a story about the end of a bad relationship, told from the perspective of the toxic partner who uses purple Victorian-style love language to disguise his selfishness and entitlement. I think you could push it further, and develop a clear narrative around this letter. Best of luck!

Some more tips: A love letter is hand-written- especially in the times we live in. Try not to start sentences with "I" don't use "my" and "I" all the time. You need a bit of humour somewhere. Perfume and kisses are a nice touch from the girls.
Be prepared for the worst. Cheers! Tom Brown (expert)
