Chapter 14
The fall of the watchers, a long time ago
The earth was still new to the new race named man. They were a young species, naive yet innocent. Satan had not long since been cast out of Heaven in the great battle led by Archangel Michael commander of angels, defeater of demons, and protector of God himself. But in time God feared that in time Lucifer would crawl out of his pit once more, and attempt to destroy mankind. Manipulating them, turning them against one another until their souls was filled with hate, and their hearts became black. So God ordered Michael to appoint a worthy Angel one whom was Just and fair, brave and merciful. One who would protect mankind from Lucifer. Who could watch this new race grow and bloom, but was not allowed direct contact, for the angels knew things that would corrupt this new creation named man.
God warned Michael, giving him specific instructions for these “Watchers” of mankind. Their duties were simple. To protect mankind against evil, to watch them grow and develop but under no circumstances to have any contact. They were to exist within the shadows, always watching, never intervening.
Michael approached his old friend and comrade Semyazza, whom had fought at his side during the great battle against Lucifer and the other fallen angels. Semyazza was just and loyal; he was a born leader who had proven himself time and time again. When Michael had asked Semyazza if he would lead this band of watchers, Semyazza was honoured and took great pride in his new role.
Time passed in the human realm. Semyazza and his fellow angels began to watch these daughters of mankind with more interest than what was allowed. They began to lust after them and wanted them for themselves, craved them, burned for them.
“We should take them for ourselves,” Said Ezekeel to Sariel. “Have them for our wives,”
“Yes I agree,”
“What goes on here?” said Semyazza as he approached the twenty something angles that had called for a meeting.
“We must speak with you, Semyazza; we wish to marry with these daughters of, Adam for they are beautiful, our bodies ache for them!” Kakabel said from the circle gathered with a loud mumbling of agreement coming from the others present.
Semyazza would have liked to have disagreed with this band of angels, his brothers, but the truth was he could not. Semyazza had fallen in love with a human woman, and had desired her from the moment that he had laid his eyes on her. Her name was Margaret, and she was beautiful. Her eyes were as dark as night, hair the colours of sun, skin like that of milk. Semyazza desired her more than he had ever desired anything.
“Yes,” said Semyazza “I agree, we shall take these daughters of man as our own, marry them. But I shall accept sole responsibility for these actions. I shall be the only one accountable to the wrath of God” he breathed.
“No brother, we all shall. Let us make a pact!” shouted another Angel from within the circle.
Semyazza fell madly in love with Margaret. As all of the other watchers did with other daughters of man, they had married and had bared many children. But then these Angels disobeyed Gods orders not to interact with mankind, and also instructed them in the forbidden and arcane arts of astrology, botany and astronomy teaching them how to make weapons and use magic.
This however could not go unpunished. Archangel Michael was sent to the realm of man to round up these watchers and their offspring and punish them for these crimes. Putting them into the hidden valleys of the earth where they shall await the final judgement and hurled into the everlasting fire.
“Go to earth, Michael. I Curse these fallen Angels. Send them to deepest valleys; show no mercy to them, or their offspring! I curse them all. I want an example made of them, Michael!” roared God from the throne room in the seventh Heaven.
So Michael was sent to earth, to punish his brothers for falling in love with daughters of man and educating them. Michael did not enjoy such tasks, bloodshed in the name of God, but this was his mission no matter how gruesome, he would get the job done.
“Semyazza, God has ordered our women and children be slaughtered and that we be punished, thrown into the pit of hell, what shall we do?” cried Sariel.
Semyazza looked ill “whom has he sent?”
“Michael!”
When one heard that name, it spread fear into the very soul. But Semyazza had to save his woman and children. He had been blessed with twins Lilith and Tariq, and would protect them with his life.
“When is he to arrive?” Semyazza asked Sariel.
“He already has, he has killed, Ezekeel and his three sons, we have been cursed! God himself has cursed our offspring should they survive!” cried Sariel.
Just then Semyazza sensed Michael behind him. He turned around slowly not making any sudden movements.
“Hello old friend,” Said Semyazza as he looked at Michael. “It has been too long.”
Michaels face looked grim. “I wish it was under better circumstances brother, but I have been sent by God to carry out this task, no matter my own feelings friend. This must be done, you have disobeyed your orders, you were told not to interact with them. To remain in the shadows,”
Sariel jumped out in front of Semyazza and fought Michael. But was no match for Michael’s power and skill; he did not stand a chance. Falling to the floor at Michael’s feet, black blood staining the ground. Michael shook his head and retrieved his dagger.
“I would ask you one thing, Michael before my end. That my wife and children be spared. We did not do these things maliciously brother. I did not realise it was such a great crime to fall in love and be loved in return, none of us did. I beg you brother, friend, comrade?”
“I am sorry old friend, but that is something that I am unable to do,” said Michael as he raised his sword.
Just as Michael struck down with his blade Margaret run out towards Semyazza and pushed him out of the way, receiving the blow of Michael’s sword, turning her to dust before Semyazza’s very eyes. Semyazza screamed out in agony. A pain of which he had never before felt, like someone had reached into his chest and ripped out his heart with their bare hands. Semyazza fell to the floor attempting to gather the remains of his beloved which was nothing more than dirt and dust.
Michael stood there and watched Semyazza as he cried and held the ashes of his beloved. The pain in his friends face, the sorrow, the loss it was indescribable. What was he doing, this should not be the actions of a traitor thought Michael, and Semyazza had not hurt anyone. None of the other watchers had. Yet he had punished them with death of eternal fire, like they had committed a crime so terrible that they deserved the same treatment that those who had attempted to over throw God and his Kingdom all them years before. What he was doing was wrong thought Michael. This was all wrong, and he had slaughtered his old friends for committing no more of a crime falling in love.
“Enough,” Said Michael. “I am sorry for causing so much pain brother,” whispered Michael as he left the earth plain and travelled to the kingdom of Heaven to confront God with this message.
“I curse you!” screamed Semyazza. “Dam you to hell, Michael Dam you for all eternity!” he wailed as he scrapped the earth with his hands, shedding black blood tears onto the ground “This isn’t over, Michael. This isn’t over!”
“Mwah, mwah,” screamed Lilith and Tariq from there cots as if they seemed to know that their mother was no more. Semyazza sat up, eyes full of tears as he crawled over to his beautiful children. As he leant over the cots he noticed there was something different about them. They were changed, their eyes were no longer the beautiful brown they once were, but now a blood red. And there skin was so pale.
Semyazza picked up Lilith and held her to himself and walked around the room attempting to give her some comfort. As he held the child, he walked past a patch of sunlight which was shining through the ceiling. Lilith instantly screamed like she was in pain. Semyazza looked down at the infant and noticed her flesh was badly burned where the sunlight had touched her skin, and then he realised. Putting Lilith back down into her cot still crying, Semyazza fell to the floor. His children had been cursed, and his wife murdered and all because of Michael and God. He would not let this rest; they would not get away with this.
“Do you hear me?” shouted Semyazza. “You will not get away with this!” screamed Semyazza as more tears flowed from his eyes.
“Of course they won’t old friend,” said a familiar voice. A voice whom he had not heard, for a very, very long time.
“Lucifer,” whispered Semyazza between sobs.
“Yes, it is I old friend, and I have seen what they have done to you. A similar thing once happened to me, but I vow my friend this will not happen again, and I can promise that your children and your children’s children will be safe to grow and prosper if you join forces with me. Help me kill that bastard, Michael, and put, God, in his rightful place! What do you say old friend, do you seek my protection for you and your children?”
Semyazza stood up and turned around, facing the devil himself, eyes stained with black blood his face now blank from all emotion.
“Yes, old friend, yes I shall help rid you of, Michael and, God. They are the same to me the same as my wife. Dead!” said Semyazza as he took Lucifer’s hand. Kneeling down in front of him, Semyazza kissed it, pledging his allegiance.
On his way to meet with God, Michael bumped into Gabriel.
“Back so soon, Michael?” said Gabriel as she hurried after him.
Michael was walking so fast it was hard to keep up.
“What’s wrong, Michael, you look vexed?” panted Gabriel as she struggled to keep pace.
“It is best you do not get involved old friend!” growled Michael between clenched teeth.
Gabriel looked at Michael. This was not good. He looked like he was ready to do battle, but why when he was headed into God’s throne room. Something must have gone wrong with Michaels mission thought Gabriel.
The other Angels were not allowed knowledge of Michael’s missions, they was between God and him alone. But this must have caused him great hurt; she could see it in his face.
“You haven’t completed the mission have you?” said Gabriel her eyes widening.
Michaels head snapped around, and in a glance she knew the truth. Without a word spoken, she knew that he had disobeyed Gods orders. What must this mission be, that was so terrible, that even Michael the Archangel of heaven, the warrior, the brave, the just whom had been faithful never questioning Gods orders until now. This must be very grave indeed she thought as she walked with Michael and followed him into God’s throne room.
