musing in the shine

musing in the shine
if I crane my neck
the tower block walls
stab into the sky
twenty-four floors up
on the flat roof top
I’ve hidden a chair
I like to sit in the sun-breeze
reading murder mysteries
or trying yoga
in the nude -
a girlfriend said
it’s better naked
I was keen on 'downward dog'
she told me off for smirking
when I mentioned it -
I couldn’t help it
it’s not the same now
not since…
never mind
the lift needs fixing
it’s a long haul climbing
the stairs
but exhilarating
each floor throbs with
Radio One, and reggae
occasional snatches
of classical, sometimes jazz
and always screeching kids
and mums and dads
I brush spiders from my chair
read a book a while
and rest my eyes
in buttercup sunshine
jumbo jets fly overhead
pigeons shuffle
on the parapet -
life ain’t bad
all in all.
