A Letter To My Lover

To my lover,
Every day I think of you. I remember the times we have shared.
Do you ever think of me? Do you ever remember the long hot summer nights in Egypt? I do. I can’t forget even after all these years.
The night we met, I was sat in the hotel bar wearing a slim white dress. The air was thick and hot. I used a drinks menu as a fan. I was alone. I had travelled to see the sights. I wanted to see the tombs of the dead pharaohs. Then you appeared.
You were the most handsome man I had ever seen. However I saw the golden band upon your finger. Ah married, why did you have to be attached?
You came over; we talked most of the night as the bar. Drink after drink flowed and you told me that you were unhappy with your wife and that you were looking for adventure. It was what I was looking for too. Your wife did not matter anymore.
The next few weeks passed in a blur as we fell in love and chased adventure. We rode camels into the hot heat of the day to visit the pyramids and tombs. In the cool of the evening in my room, we made lazy passionate love. I had never felt like this before and the look on your face showed the love you felt for me. I loved waking in the middle of night and finding you still there.
Then it happened, I knew straight away. I told you and I knew what you would say. It was our fault for not being careful. Our adventure ended then, more abruptly then I wanted it too. You told me that you had to leave and go back to your wife and that this child was my responsibility. You broke my heart. The child was born back in England and my parents made me give up my beautiful boy. Yes, the child was a boy. I hope he was happy. I hope you were happy.
I am writing this to you to tell you that you are the only man I ever loved. You were my soul mate. It doesn’t matter now about my heart. I forgave you a long time ago. We could have been happy if only you had not been married. It was the way it was meant to end for us. I think about you every day and I love you always until the day I die.
Forever yours...
