- Real Wife (Mrs Muggins)
- Alexa – imagining the woman behind that lovely Amazon woman’s voice! In actual fact his image of her changed with the seasons. Sometimes she was older and more authoritative, or younger and more pliant. Sometimes she was tall and her hair short, or sometimes longer. She was middle class, polite and humourous, and unlike his real wife she didn’t answer back, apart from in subtle digging and urbane humour sometimes.
He could have intelligent conversations with her and she was a better listener than his real wife. (but actually his real wife did actually have a very good sense of humour most of the time, and did at least allow him many flights of fancy. And as an artistic and quite soft person he did actually have many quite ridiculous flights of fantasy, such as this one!)
- Anne of Cleves (as depicted in some dramas only (not the ones where she was really ugly))
Despite only having hobbies like needlework and house management and not being an urbane English or French Court-like courtesan like Anne Boleyn or most of the others, she was rather pleasant and truly innocent. She would not make waves, and would be a perfect wife.
