The Glass Ceiling

For a lot of people in the West, science has replaced religion as their explanatory 'bedrock'. They believe in it with the same unquestioning faith as a medieval monk would view his own diety. But does this modern church now need a new roof?
We see old footage of men on the moon and yet fifty years later all we see is a regular (very expensive) firework show. We laugh at eighteenth century medical practices, but fail to see the folly of overprescribed and withdrawn drugs today. We go bug-eyed at endless contradictory advice on the medical internet, and we look away from modern illnesses as they replace the old.
Progress is an illusion.
The insipient problems of war, crime, poverty and disease continue unabated. Science now enters the dock accused of killing the planet through its progeny - industrialization.
