Haunted Hostel

Our school holiday took us to a motel.
Surrounded by coutryside, and areas of natural beauty.
A trip up to the castle, too many stairs to climb.
A day at Cuckmere Valley, gazing at the river as it winds it's way to the sea.
A white chalk horse, carved in the hills, no one knew when or why.
At night we played football, then settled down at night.
Then one morning a girl came screaming 'there is blood on the floor!'
we went down to look at the crimson trail of red.
Initially I was dubious, it could just be ink, but stranger things continued, a spirit leashed within.
The next day we returned, to a state of disarray. Money and cameras missing, but we'd been out all day.
I dared to enter our door, scared of what I'd find. Nothing there was stolen, but a mess had been left behind.
That night we all screamed and were too scared to sleep.
We lay top to toe in each other's beds, while our teacher read us stories.
Was this house haunted, or was it a joke.
Did this haunted motel have an evil spirit, what was it trying to show?

OK, wish I hadn't read this
OK, wish I hadn't read this at night, on my own. I like the way it is left open ended. Nice contrast between the description of the countryside and the atmosphere in the motel, and nice foreshadowing, too, with the mysterious origins of the white horse.
Just to be really picky - the river should wind its way, rather than it's?
