I Will Ride

I will ride.
I will ride the bus all day,
wearing my late husband’s
greatcoat and his gloves over mine.
I will ride.
I will ride in the best seat
for hiding, behind the driver,
hoping that I remain un-noticed.
I will ride.
I will ride until the last breath,
muttering the names of demons,
or the names of politicians.
I will ride.
I will ride to my own rescue,
roughshod over liars and cheats
and the richest fools in Borisdom.
I will ride,
I will ride the juggernaut,
smashing and crushing thieves
and those who stole my golden years.
I will ride.
I will ride the stories I tell
children I will never have,
knowing they need not pity me.
