Whistles

Two notes: never heard a wolf whistle.
Any more than I heard a pierced-beak blackbird
trill a five note arpeggio.
Train whistle
“All aboard!
Morningtown
next stop.”
Playground whistle,
playtime over
school is in.
One long note -never heard the factory whistle;
never worked on a production line,
never worked to rule.
There are no bells
or whistles, on us
- we underlings
are the basic model.
There’s a whistle
we all expect
- sooner or later -
and it signals
the end of the game.
Maybe there’s an echo
of the time
you whistled down the wind.
