The Problem with Poets

What makes someone a poet?
Does a person even know it?
Is it due to having a knack for rhyme
Or is it something that develops over time?
Does the reader have to have a connection
Or be left in a state of reflection?
Does the reader have to go over parts now and then
Or constantly read the poem again and again?
Is it due to personal taste
Or something that can be read in haste?
Does it matter if the poem is a haiku or an acrostic?
Whether the poem is happy or something quite drastic?
I guess anyone can be a poet
Though not everyone wants to show it
But I guess the best poets have felt pain
And take advantage of it for personal gain
That's the problem with poets don't you see?
Sadly we thrive off of pain and misery
The sadder the tale and the deeper the woe
The more chance we have of putting on a good show

I really like this poem,
I really like this poem, fallen angel, it's cheeky in a rollicking way. I can see a number of my poetic friends who easily fit your descriptions. Richard
