Supply teaching sums me up completely. I can't live with teaching and I can't live without it.
It's 09.10 and the 'phone didn't ring today. Thank f**k ! But part of me remembers the buzz I got when I was in combat, glowing with a zeal that surprised even me.
The sun shines and a day of leisure beckons. One I can fill with my wife who by the way comes from the same professional genre,
I wonder if top sportsmen and women feel the sam after retirement at the top. A mixture of relief and yet an empty space that can't really be filled. Somehow I have to fill my day.
The phrase 'I don't know how I ever had enough to go to work' is a tired one trotted out by retirees. It's pure BULLSHIT because they are just lying to themselves. They miss it alright and if they don't, they've wasted their f*****g time for the last however many years..
My mentor at college told me on the eve of my first teaching practice "If you don't get a buzz from being there, you are in the wrong place!"
I got the buzz and I always found the time to go to work.
