Florence Gently Weeping
In times long lost, you voyaged in youthful splendour.
Resplendent beauty, proud virgin youth gliding on a sea of glass
Your majestic rise and fall made steamy youth give way to sail.
Now drifting, torn by the storms of life no one heeds your pain.
Old, and empty you repeat the same tortured cry “please someone”
Helpless you were born and helpless you will die.
Florence cannot help you, comfort has abandoned you leaving you to lie.
Hypocrates swore he’d guide you and others pledged the same,
But in this crowded lonely place waiting is the game.
You cannot cry; your eyes long dried “please someone”
The helpless helpers can do nothing even though they tried.
